Founded in 1853, Ramirez & Cª (Filhos), SA, is a family-owned business that is the world’s oldest fish cannery still in operation, and is also home to some of the most modern and eco-friendly production unit in the sector. The company has always prided itself on producing the best canned fish and continues to extend the experience and know-how that are a legacy of five generations of the Ramirez family.
The new ‘Ramirez 1853’ plant is today a state-of-the-art benchmark in the sector: the most advanced freezing technology, X-ray inspection of cans, automation of the packaging, a set-up to take advantage of the rainwater and natural light in the entire factory

Ramirez has a unique diversity of products on the market. It produces 55 different items. From tuna to sardines, but also mackerel, cod, squid, octopus, mussels and anchovy fillets. Including complete ready-made meals, such as cod with chickpeas, tuna with vegetables and Algarve style baked tuna. The utmost care to comply with hygiene and health specifications led Ramirez to set up its own laboratories for quality control, over 40 years ago. Their reliability is certified by the most demanding agencies and international distribution chains in the world.
